What is the PE and Sports Premium?

The Government provides additional funding to primary schools to improve the quality of Physical Education (PE), physical activity, and sport for all pupils. The funding is allocated directly to schools and must be used to make sustainable improvements to PE and sport provision.

The PE and Sport Premium aims to ensure that all children develop healthy, active lifestyles and leave primary school with the skills, confidence, and motivation to participate in sport and physical activity throughout their lives. The funding is ring-fenced and can only be spent on PE and sport-related provision.

Our Vision for PE and Sport

At Eastchurch CofE Primary School, we believe that physical activity plays a vital role in supporting children's physical health, emotional wellbeing, confidence, resilience, and academic achievement.

In line with our school vision:

we strive to provide high-quality PE lessons, competitive sporting opportunities, and a wide range of activities that encourage all pupils to participate, succeed, and enjoy being active.

We are committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of ability or background, can access and benefit from physical education and sport.

How We Use Our Sports Premium Funding

The funding is used to:

• Improve the quality of PE teaching across the school.
• Increase pupils' participation in physical activity.
• Develop staff confidence and expertise in teaching PE.
• Support participation in competitive sport.
• Promote healthy lifestyles and positive wellbeing.
• Ensure inclusion for all pupils, including those with SEND and disadvantaged pupils.

Examples of spending may include:

• Specialist sports coaching.
• Professional development and training for staff.
• New sports equipment and resources.
• Participation in local competitions and festivals.
• Extra-curricular clubs and activities.
• Swimming and water safety provision.
• Programmes that encourage active play and physical wellbeing.

Measuring Impact

We regularly review the impact of our Sports Premium spending against the Government's key indicators:

1. Increased confidence, knowledge, and skills of staff in teaching PE and sport.
2. Increased engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.
3. Raised profile of PE and sport across the school.
4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities.
5. Increased participation in competitive sport.

Swimming and Water Safety

As part of the National Curriculum, pupils are taught to:

• Swim competently, confidently, and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
• Use a range of strokes effectively.
• Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

Annual swimming attainment data is published within our Sports Premium reporting documents.
