PE Curriculum Intent

The PE curriculum is designed with a holistic intent to foster the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of every student. Our aim is to instill a lifelong love for physical activity, promoting health and well-being in our students both now and in the future to develop them into resilient life-long learners of physical activity.

Through a journey of exploration and risk-taking, we endevour to provide the pupils with a range of activities and experiences, we seek to empower students to develop their physical literacy, enabling them to move with confidence and competence across a variety of contexts. We aim to cultivate skills such as coordination, agility, balance, and strength, while also emphasizing the importance of teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship.

Furthermore, our PE curriculum is committed to promoting inclusivity and diversity, ensuring that all students feel valued and supported regardless of their abilities, backgrounds, or interests. By offering a range of activities that cater to different preferences and abilities, we strive to create an environment where every student can thrive and succeed and achieve their full potential.

In line with this commitment, swimming is incorporated into the curriculum for students in years 4, 5, and 6. We recognize the importance of water safety and the valuable lifelong skill of swimming. Through swimming lessons, students have the opportunity to develop their aquatic skills, water confidence, and swimming strokes in a safe and supportive environment.

In addition to physical skills, our curriculum aims to cultivate resilience and a growth mindset in students. Through facing challenges, overcoming obstacles, learning from setbacks and following our Christian values, students develop the resilience and determination to persevere in the face of adversity, both in physical activities and in life. We believe that these experiences help to shape students into resilient, life-long learners who approach new challenges with confidence and adaptability.

Moreover, we recognize the vital role of physical activity in promoting mental health and well-being. Our curriculum incorporates opportunities for students to develop resilience, self-esteem, and emotional regulation through physical challenges and cooperative experiences.

Ultimately, the intent of our PE curriculum is to inspire a lifelong commitment to physical activity and healthy living, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to lead active, fulfilling lives now and in the future.
