Year 3 Home Learning – Friday 15th January

Well done everybody for all your hard work this week! We have thoroughly enjoyed looking at your home learning and have been so impressed with what we have seen. Have a lovely and relaxing weekend!

Here is an outline of the work we would like you to complete today:

Spelling

Today’s spelling challenge focuses on the prefix -im. Prefixes are a group of letters that change the meaning of a word when they are added to the start. Have a go at spelling words that begin with the prefix -im. This is set as a 2Do on Purple Mash (Y3 SPR1 WK3 – Quiz).  You can also practice your phonics sounds by accessing the website www.phonicshero.com Just ask your teacher for the login!

Reading

Read Chapter 5 of the Tale of Ostrich and a Very Long Neck. How do you think the story will end? Did you enjoying reading this story? Test your understanding of the story by completing the Quiz. This is also set as a 2Do on Purple Mash.

English

Yesterday you planned your letter sharing your advice about what to do with the Iron Man. Today we would like you to use your planning to write a persuasive letter. Use the checklist in the resources below to help you include all the key features of letter writing. Remember, you are trying to persuade the reader to use your idea and take your advice so include lots of detail!

Use these prompts to help you:

  • Why are you writing?
  • What should we do with the Iron Man?
  • Why should they listen to your advice?

Maths

Today we are learning to compare number sentences by using the more than, less than and equal to symbols. Refresh your memory by watching this video. Can you join in with the song? Begin by working out the four challenges in the maths starter. Don’t forget to show your working out! Then move on to Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning. Use an array or repeated addition to solve the multiplication number sentences. Then use <, > and = to compare the statements.

You can practice your multiplication and division skills by logging on to Times Tables Rockstars. If you have forgotten your login, just send us a message!

Topic

Think about the different forces you have found out about so far (friction, gravity, magnetic). What do you now know? What has interested you the most? Today we would like you to create a piece of artwork/poster that explains each force. Draw an image that explains a force and annotate it with information. How might we see the force at home or at school? Explore this website and it’s videos for more information

Extra: Convince me! Which force is the most important? Why?
