Year 3 Home Learning – Tuesday 5th January

Happy Tuesday everyone! We hope that you were able to complete the work yesterday, don’t forget that you can send pictures of your work over to us using the Class Dojo website or the app. Remember, if you are struggling Miss Blackmore and Mr Cook are here to help and are available to communicate live on our online platform Class Dojo between 10-10.30am and 14.00-14.30pm. We hope you are finding the work fun to complete, and we look forward to seeing all your hard work!!

Here is an outline of the work we would like you to complete today;

Grammar - Practice your understanding of consonants and vowels. Watch the video to help refresh your understanding and then complete the work as a 2Do on Purple Mash.

Reading  - Read Chapter 2 of Poppa Joe and the Red Racer and answer the comprehension questions. This is also set as a 2Do on Purple Mash.

English – Lesson 2 - Today we would like you to continue reading the thrilling Iron Man by Ted Hughes either here or here. Yesterday you read the opening of the chapter, today we would like you to read up to the end of Chapter 1. We would like you to look at the work you completed yesterday, were your predictions correct? Today we would like you to review the whole chapter and answer these questions in full sentences.

  • Did you like the chapter?
  • What didn’t you like about the chapter?
  • If you were the author of the book, what would you change?
  • What do you think of the Iron Man?

Maths  - We will continue our learning on multiplication and division. Today’s work focuses on dividing into groups of 3. Have a go at the flashback starter. Can you remember how to add and takeaway using the column method?

Move onto the White Rose sheet, work through Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning and show your working out - see resources below.

Topic/DT - Today we are going to begin our new topic with our fabulous starter. We are going to be thinking about our topic ‘Mighty Metals’ and our book The Iron Man. This afternoon we would like you to design, and if possible, build a robot! Your robot can look however you want it to. Think about the materials that you could use to build your robot (paper, cardboard boxes, etc).

Before you start building, make sure you have drawn a design. Can you label the materials you will use? What does your robot do? What size is it? Can your robot talk? Is it evil or friendly?

Ask your parents if there are any cardboard boxes or any other recyclable items that you can use to build your robot. If you do not have anything to build it from then don’t worry your designs will be good enough! Happy designing and building!
