Year 3 Home Learning -Term 4 Week 1

Tuesday 23rd February

Welcome to Tuesday’s blog. Please let your teachers know if you need any resources or logins to support your home learning. Here is an outline of the work we would like you to complete today:

Phonics

Practice your phonics knowledge by using www.phonicshero.com. Phonics Hero has fun and interactive games that build reading and spelling skills gradually and teaches the 44 different sounds. If your login is not in your child’s contact book, please message your teacher for the login details!

Reading

Read Chapter 2 of Henry the Elephant. The animals begin building a wall to protect their home, but Henry is absent again. What is his secret? Test your understanding of the chapter by completing the 2Do Quiz.

Grammar

Practice using prepositions in a sentence. A preposition is a word that tells you where or when something is in relation to something else. Examples of prepositions include words like after, before, on, under, inside and outside. Begin by watching this video to help you. Then access Bella and the Farm as a 2Do on Purple Mash to practice using prepositions.

Handwriting

Use www.letterjoin.co.uk to support today’s handwriting practice. Log on to your account with the Username: wk25530 and Password: home. Today we will practice the correct orientation of the letter ‘d’. Search ‘Magic Words’ to practice joining and forming the letter correctly. Then use the writing resource below to practice words and sentences containing ‘dd’. Don’t forget to start with your pencil on the line to form an ascender!

English

Today we will begin reading Krindlekrax by Philip Ridley. For this lesson you will need to listen to the video to access Chapter 1 and 2. We would like you to write a character description for Ruskin, Wendy and Winston. Draw a picture of these quirky characters followed by a detailed description. Use a range of adjectives and punctuation to make your writing interesting to read. Watch the pre-recorded video to take you through the learning.

Maths

Begin by working out the four challenges in the maths starter. Don’t forget to show your working out! Then move on to Fluency, Reasoning and Problem Solving. Today we will continue our learning on measurement. We will begin to measure larger objects using metres. We will think about whether it is better to measure items in centimetres or metres and discuss the reasons why. Watch this video to help explain today’s learning.  https://vimeo.com/504466031

Topic

Welcome to our new topic: Predator! Is it a bug munching lizard or an eagle-eyed bird of prey? Whatever it is, do you think you can handle it?

Today we would like you to tell us about your favourite animal. This could be one of your pets, a friend’s pet or an interesting and exotic animal! Include drawings/pictures and facts about the animal (what do they eat, how to look after them, etc.) Choose one of the options below to present your work.

  • Poster with pictures and information
  • Leaflet
  • PowerPoint presentation
  • Record yourself talking about your pet!
