Year 3 Home Learning -Term 4 Week 1

Wednesday 24th February

Welcome to Wednesday’s blog. This week’s value is forgiveness, please send your nominations by the end of the day Thursday so we can award two value ambassadors on Friday’s celebration video. Here is an outline of the work we would like you to complete today:

Phonics

Practice your phonics knowledge by using www.phonicshero.com. Phonics Hero has fun and interactive games that build reading and spelling skills gradually and teaches the 44 different sounds. If your login is not in your child’s contact book, please message your teacher for the login details!

Reading

Read Chapter 3 of Henry the Elephant. King Oscar is not happy about Henry's disappearing tricks especially as the loggers are getting nearer by the second. Test your understanding of the chapter by completing the 2Do Quiz.

Spelling

Practice spelling words that end with the phoneme -le. Use your segmenting and blending skills to sound out these words. Complete the 2Do called Y2 SPR1 W1 Quiz on Purple Mash.

English

Today we will continue reading Krindlekrax by Philip Ridley. We will need to listen to Chapter 3, 4 and 5 for this lesson (Children – Video Resource Centre – Year 3 – Krindlekrax Book). In these chapters we will be introduced to a new character – Elvis Cave. Create a ‘role on the wall’ for this character by drawing an outline of a body. In the middle of the template create a list of words that describe his appearance and around the outside write words that describe his personality. Also include a speech bubble for something Elvis might say. Watch this video to help explain today’s learning.

Maths

Begin by working out the four challenges in the maths starter. Don’t forget to show your working out! Then move on to Fluency, Reasoning and Problem Solving.  Today we are learning about equivalent lengths. We will learn to recognise that 100cm is equivalent to 1 metre. We will then use this knowledge to convert other multiples of 100cm in metres.  Use this video to help explain equivalent lengths: https://vimeo.com/504467081

PSHE

This term’s topic is called Healthy Me. Today we will understand how exercise affects our body and why our hearts and lungs are such important organs. Why is it important to exercise? Take a look at the resource sheet below of pictures of different pets. Why do you think some pets look healthy and some look unhealthy? Create a list of reasons on why it is important to exercise and be active.

Place your hand on your heart and feel the beats. Count how many times your heart beats in 15 seconds. Now breathe quicker and feel what happens to your heart. What happens when you breathe slower? The heart and lungs always work together and are very important parts of your body. Use these links below to find out about these important organs. Then, add to your list ways to make your heart and lungs stronger (fitter).
