Year 3 Home Learning – Friday 8th January

Thank you for all your hard work this week, we have really enjoyed seeing the wonderful home learning. Keep safe and have a lovely weekend!  Here is an outline of the work we would like you to complete today;

Spelling

Practice how to spell different homophones (words that sound the same but are spelt differently, e.g., sun/son, hear/here).  You can access the spelling quiz as a 2Do on Purple Mash called Y3 AUT1 WK1-Quiz.

Reading

Read Chapter 5 of Poppa Joe and the Red Racer and complete the Quiz. I wonder how the story will end? Were your predictions correct? This is also set as a 2Do on Purple Mash.

English – Lesson 5

Today we would like you to read/listen the first three paragraphs of Chapter 2 (Up to the Iron Man had come back!). Close your eyes and visualise the scene by the stream when Hogarth saw the Iron Man for the first time. Now, imagine you are Hogarth. What can you see around you? What can you hear? How do you feel? You may want to draw the scene to help you!

We would like you to use your imagination to describe this scene. Write a description of your surroundings and use your senses to help you. Don’t forget to use good vocabulary and interesting words!

Iron Man book

Iron Man Audio Chapter 2 – up to 1min 45

Maths

Begin with the Flashback starter and answer the four challenges. Today we would like you to practice your division skills by dividing into 4 equal groups. Don’t forget you can use objects to share out equally or draw pictures to help you. If you are unsure how to do this, take a look at this video.

Move onto the White Rose sheet, work through Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning and show your working out - see resources below.

Topic

When you visit a playground, how many different forces are used? Can you think of an example where a push or pull force is needed? Watch this video to look at the different examples of forces being used in a playground: (If you need more information, there are many more videos about forces on the BBC Bitesize website!)

Today we would like you to design your perfect playground! What real or imaginary equipment would you include? What material are they made from? Draw your design and label the forces being used.
