Year 3 Home Learning – Monday 8th February

We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable weekend!

Just a reminder that Miss Blackmore and Mr Cook will be available to communicate with you live on Class Dojo between 10-10.30am and 14.00-14.30pm. We will be able to help you with your learning and answer any questions about the work set. Here is an outline of the work we would like you to complete today:

Phonics

Practice spelling words containing the phonemes dr, fl and fr. Use your blending and segmenting skills to sound out each of the words. This is set as a 2Do on Purple Mash. Practice your phonics knowledge by using www.phonicshero.com. Phonics Hero has fun and interactive games that build reading and spelling skills gradually and teaches the 44 different sounds. If your login is not in your child’s contact book, please message your teacher for the login details!

Reading

Read Chapter 1 and 2 of The Switcher. Ben and Rocky are rehearsing for the school talent show in next door’s garden when they stumble upon a strange machine! Test your understanding of both chapters by competing the Quiz on Purple Mash.

Spelling

Test your understanding of this term’s spelling by completing the Y3 SPR1 WK6 Quiz. This 2Do is a recap of some of the spellings you have learnt over the term.

English

This week we are going to read a new book called Until I Met Dudley by Roger McGough. Have you ever wondered how a toaster works? Or what happens to garbage when it's thrown out? In this book, Dudley, the techno-wizard dog, takes you through the inner workings of familiar machinery. Today we will read the first page, ‘I thought I knew how a toaster worked’. Can you create a set of instructions on how the imaginary toaster works? Watch the video to explain the learning in more detail.

Maths

Begin by working out the four challenges in the maths starter. Don’t forget to show your working out! Then move on to Fluency, Reasoning and Problem Solving.

This week we are moving on to statistics. This is when you gather, record and present information and data in a way that is more helpful for others. This can be in graphs, charts, or tables. Today we are learning to create and interpret tally charts. Watch this video on how to make a tally chart and to take you through the learning. https://vimeo.com/500377891

PE

Enjoy a relaxing cosmic yoga session with Jaime. This yoga session is around Valentine’s Day! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU_T7lmw6Fo

RE

This term we have been focusing on the Incarnation section of the Big Frieze. Today we are going to try and answer our Big Question: What is the Trinity? Think about your learning over the last 6 weeks. What have you found out? What do you now know about the Trinity? Some Christians try to use images to help people understand that God is three in one – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Can you think of your own design that represents the Trinity? Then, answer this term’s Big Question.
