Session 1 - Phonics We are going to continue learning Phase 3 sounds which are all digraphs, two letters making one sound or a trigraph, three letters making one sound. Click the link for Letters and Sounds video for segmenting and blending words with the digraph long ‘oo’
Session 2 – English How could we say ‘Thank you’ to all of our Everyday Heroes? Can we draw a picture or make a card to say thank you to these people for still going to work whilst also trying to stay safe? What picture could we draw? We could draw a rainbow, or we could draw the hero doing their job, so a teacher or a TA, a receptionist on the computer or on the phone, a cleaner with a hoover, a cook cooking meals, a shelf filler filling the shop shelves, somebody on the checkout at the supermarket, a lorry driver delivering the food to the shops, a farmer picking their crops, a baker baking bread, a doctor or a nurse helping somebody feeling poorly, a bus or train driver driving the bus or train, the bin people collecting our rubbish every week. The list really is endless. Decide on the Everyday Hero you would like to say ‘Thank You’ to and draw a picture.
Session 3 - Maths Today we are matching numbers 6, 7 and 8. Watch the video of Mrs Holmes sharing dominoes with 6, 7 or 8 dots on them. We will play a game where we try to find a pair that have the same amount.
Ask your grown up to help you make some dominoes with 6, 7 or 8 dots on them and then turn them over and play the finding a pair game. I hope you have lots of fun.
Session 4 - RE
The Big Question this term was:
What do Christians believe is special about Jesus and the message he brings?
So let’s think about all the stories we read this term and see if we know why Jesus is special and what the message he brings is?
Week 1- What is a Disciple? Jesus chooses his friends. This story tells us about how Jesus chooses his 12 disciples to help him spread the message of God’s love. Christians believe Jesus helps them to make the right choices in their lives.
Week 2- Who were Jesus’ friends? We read the story about Zacchaeus, who wasn’t a very nice man, he was stealing people money, however Jesus chose Zacchaeus to have dinner with and showed everyone that he will forgive anyone for their wrong or unkind behaviour. This story also told us that even though Jesus and chosen his 12 disciples he was also everybody’s friend.
Week 3- What is a parable? A parable is a special story Jesus told that teaches Christians about God. This week we read The Lost Sheep. This showed us that Christians believe that if we are doing the wrong thing or are unkind then we are a little bit lost, like the sheep. God will always look out for us and find us and help us to do the right thing.
Week 4 – The Parable of the Yeast. This story reminded us that yeast helps the dough to grow when baking bread and Jesus is the yeast helping to spread God’s good news and love to more people. We said that being a good friend or doing something kind would probably make somebody else be a good friend or do something kind meaning there were more friends and kindness in the world.
Week 5 - What is a Miracle?- This week we learned about Jesus’ first miracle when he turned the water into wine and the wedding at Cana. This was amazing and everybody was shocked that Jesus could do this. This just proved to everyone how special Jesus was and Christians believe if you rally need help then God will help you.
Activity Can you talk to your grown up about why Christians think Jesus is special? What have you learned about Jesus from these stories that make him special? Do you think Jesus is special? Now think about the message Jesus brings, is it a good message about being kind and helpful and forgiving others? Or is it a bad message about doing unkind things and upsetting people?
Finish this sentence: I think the message Jesus brings is……………….
