Year 4 Daily Activities Week 3 Thursday 21st January
Today’s Activities
Today begins with English activities, followed by Maths and Science in the afternoon.
GPS
Today we are going to be practising to spell some words from the statutory word list for Years 3 and 4. Have a look at 210121.year4.GPS4 for more instructions. You will be choosing from some fun (and maybe messy!) spelling practise cards to help you learn the words (see 210121.year4.GPS4spellingcards). It would be great to see some photos of the different ways you have chosen to practise the words, so please upload them to your portfolio on Dojo!
Once you have practised, log on to Purple Mash to complete the spelling quiz, which has been set as a 2Do and will appear on Thursday. Good luck!
Reading Activity
Purple Mash 2Do Activity. Read Chapter 4 of Time Freeze and complete the Chapter 4 quiz.
Writing Activity (Newspaper Report)
Yesterday you began to write your newspaper report about the wolf’s attack on Arthur’s town. Today, watch our new video and continue to write the report, focusing on writing the introduction and then putting together 1 or 2 quotes which you can include when you finish writing the report tomorrow. Thursday Video PPt Activity and Thursday Speech Bubble to Quote Sheet.
Maths
Today’s lesson is all again about dividing 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. Watch this https://vimeo.com/497992648 which explains how to do this a bit more and then have a go at the maths activity sheet below. Complete as many questions as you can, but please don’t worry if there are ones you are not sure of.
Don’t forget your daily 5-10 minutes of times tables practice, using either Purple Mash (Monster Multiplication 2Do), Times Tables Rockstar or Top Marks Hit the Button Hit the Button - Quick fire maths practice for 5-11 year olds (topmarks.co.uk)
Topic (Science)
In science today we will be learning about amplitude (low LOUD or quiet a sound is heard) as well as pitch (how high or low a sound is heard). If you have any instruments at home, perhaps a recorder or guitar, then grab them for the lesson. If not, you can make one yourself!
We will also attach a ‘Sound knowledge sheet’ which you will find useful for key vocabulary and spellings – remember to use it!
If you want to make your own instrument you will need:
- 2 pencils (any colour)
- elastic bands (different thicknesses if you can find them, if not just 1 will be OK)
- 1 box with a hole cut in (an empty tissue box is perfect but you can cut a hole in a cereal box or other smaller box).
This lesson you might also want to use:
- 1 plastic drinking straw
- Scissors
See Science Lesson 3 Changing the Pitch and Sound Knowledge Sheet
You will also need these links if you are unable to access them from the PowerPoint.
