Year 3 Home Learning – Thursday 7th January
It has been lovely to see all the fabulous home learning so far. You are all working really hard and it has been lovely to see! We hope you are all keeping safe and well. Here is an outline of the work we would like you to complete today
Phonics
Practice your phonic sounds and spelling patterns by accessing the 2Do on Purple Mash (-lk, -lp, -lt).
Reading
Read Chapter 4 of Poppa Joe and the Red Racer and complete the Quiz. How well do you know the story? This is also set as a 2Do on Purple Mash.
English – Lesson 4
Today we would like you to write a description of the Iron Man using similes. Remember, a simile describes something by comparing it to something else, using ‘like’ or ‘as’. Take a look at the link to remind you!
Ted Hughes describes the Iron Man’s head ‘shaped like a dustbin but as big as a bedroom’. I wonder how many similes you can think of that describe the Iron Man? Think about the shape, size, appearance, personality, etc.
Maths
Begin with the Flashback starter and answer the four challenges. Today we would like you to practice counting in multiples of 4! Can you use your knowledge of the two times tables to help you? You can use repeated addition, arrays, or pictorial representations to help you.

Move onto the White Rose sheet, work through Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning and show your working out - see resources below.
Topic – Science
Today’s science lesson focuses on forces. Forces are pushes and pulls in a particular direction. Take a look at the link to find out more!
Have a look at the pictures below. Which of these pictures are showing pushes and which are showing pulls? Which two things are touching in each picture to create a movement? Fold your page in half and write the two headings Push and Pull. Think of as many examples of push and pulls as you can and list in the correct column. Use the pictures to help you!
